EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the Welsh Rabbit A N3599G, a single-seat lightplane designed and produced by George Welsh in Wales during the 1960s. The Welsh Rabbit A first took to the skies on November 12, 1965, with a conventional landing gear, a 65hp Continental A65-8 engine, and a wingspan of 26 feet and length of 18 feet. With a useful load of 350 lb, this monoplane could reach maximum speeds of 108 mph and cruise at 98 mph, while stalling at a relatively slow 48 mph. A decade later, in 1968, George Welsh introduced the two-seat Model B, also registered as N3599G, with tricycle landing gear. Powered by a 100hp Continental O-200 engine, the Welsh Rabbit B boasted a wingspan of 27 feet, a length of 187 inches, and a useful load of 440 lb. Capable of reaching maximum speeds of 110 mph and cruising at 100 mph, the two-seater had a stall speed of 52 mph and a range of 220 mi. This photograph, believed to have been taken circa 1970, captures the essence of these remarkable aircraft, which represent an important chapter in the history of light aviation. The Welsh Rabbit A and B were not designed for commercial use but rather for the joy and freedom of personal flight.
