New Pavilion Saltair and bathers, Salt Lake City, USA

The New Pavilion Saltair (built in 1926) and bathers on Great Salt Lake, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. The first Saltair, completed in 1893, was jointly owned by a corporation associated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called Mormons) and the Salt Lake and Los Angeles Railroad Company (which originally served the site). Saltair was a family place, intended to provide a safe and wholesome atmosphere with the open supervision of Church leaders. Interestingly, this postcard uses the same plate (as 10652128), but reduces the visible gap of water to change the composition! Date: circa 1926

EDITORS COMMENTS
Step back in time to the roaring twenties at the New Pavilion Saltair in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. This iconic print captures the essence of a bygone era, as bathers frolic in the shallow waters of Great Salt Lake. The New Pavilion Saltair, built in 1926, was a popular destination for families seeking entertainment and relaxation. The first Saltair, completed in 1893, was a joint venture between a corporation associated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and the Salt Lake and Los Angeles Railroad Company. The LDS Church played a significant role in the management of the facility, ensuring a safe and wholesome atmosphere for its patrons. Interestingly, this postcard image, which features the New Pavilion Saltair and bathers, uses the same plate as another postcard (10652128), but with a reduced visible gap of water to change the composition. The pier stretches out into the lake, inviting visitors to enjoy the water and the various amusements offered at the pavilion. The New Pavilion Saltair was a hub of activity, with swimming, dancing, and other forms of entertainment drawing crowds from near and far. The LDS Church's involvement in Saltair reflects its commitment to providing a family-friendly environment and promoting wholesome activities for its members and the community at large. Today, the New Pavilion Saltair remains an important piece of Utah's history, a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Salt Lake City and the enduring appeal of a day spent by the lake.
