EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the facade of the Tiger Tavern, a historic pub located on Tower Hill in London. The image, taken in the late 19th or early 20th century, showcases the pub's distinctive red brick exterior adorned with intricate white detailing and the iconic tiger insignia. The Tiger Tavern was a beloved local establishment, known for its rich history and welcoming atmosphere. The pub was once owned by the Charrington and Company Limited, a prominent brewery in London at the time. The Tiger Tavern was not just a place to quench one's thirst but also a hub of community life. It was a gathering spot for locals, tourists, and sailors, who would share stories and enjoy a pint of fresh ale. Unfortunately, the Tiger Tavern, like many historic buildings in London, did not survive the test of time. As of July 2018, it had been demolished, making way for new development. The loss of the Tiger Tavern is a reminder of the ever-changing cityscape of London and the importance of preserving its history. The photograph provides a glimpse into the past, offering a tangible connection to the stories and memories that were once a part of this iconic pub. The Tiger Tavern may no longer exist, but its legacy lives on through images like this one, which serve as a testament to the rich history of Tower Hill and the people who once called it home.
