Jews at the Wailing Wall, Jerusalem

The Wailing Wall (also known as the Western Wall, Kotel, or, in Islam the Buraq Wall) is an ancient limestone wall located in Jerusalem. It makes up a small part of a much longer ancient retaining wall, known also in its entirety as the Western Wall. Located in the Old City, it is a place of prayer and pilgrimage which is sacred to Jewish people. It is the only remains of the Second Temple of Jerusalem which was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE. It is referred to as the Wailing Wall due to the practice of Jewish people weeping at this site over the destruction of the temples. Date: 1929

EDITORS COMMENTS
A poignant moment of connection and reflection at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, 1929. This ancient limestone retaining wall, also known as the Western Wall or Kotel, is a sacred site for Jewish people, representing the last remnants of the Second Temple of Jerusalem, destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE. The wall, located in the Old City, is a place of prayer and pilgrimage, where Jews come to weep and cry out in remembrance of the temples that once stood. The practice of weeping at the site is a testament to the deep emotional connection Jews have to their history and faith. The Wailing Wall, a symbol of resilience and continuity, has remained a significant site of reflection and contemplation for generations.
