This image is taken from Curtis's British Entomology, Plate 231, featuring the Epaulet Dromius beetle, scientifically known as Dromius spilotus (previously identified as Syntomus obscuroguttatus). The beetle is shown perched on the petals of what appears to be Hemlock Crane's-bill, Erodium cicutarium var. The intricate details of the beetle's exoskeleton are beautifully rendered, with its distinctive epaulets adorning its wings, earning it the common name of Epaulet Dromius. The 19th century illustration was produced during the 1820s or 1830s by the skilled hand of John Curtis, FLS, a renowned British naturalist and entomologist.
