This handcoloured copperplate engraving, taken from Friedrich Johann Bertuch's Bilderbuch fur Kinder (Picture Book for Children) published in Weimar, Germany, in 1792, showcases a delightful assemblage of mythical creatures from ancient mythology and natural history. The engraving features six mythical beings: a Centaur (1), Chimera (2), Greek Sphinx (3), Egyptian Sphinx (4), Gryllus (5), and Siren (6).
