Naaman, a commander in the army of the king of Aram, was a leper, a debilitating and socially isolating disease that was considered incurable during that time. Desperate for a cure, Naaman heard of a prophet in Israel who could heal him. He embarked on a long and arduous journey with his entourage to seek out this prophet, Elisha. Upon arriving, Naaman was met with unexpected instructions from Elisha. Instead of a grand healing ceremony, Elisha sent a messenger to Naaman with instructions to bathe seven times in the Jordan River. Naaman, initially frustrated and skeptical, reluctantly followed the instructions. After the seventh bath, Naaman was miraculously healed, and his skin was restored to its former health and beauty. This print, created around 1690, captures the moment of Naaman's transformation.
