However, her story took a tragic turn on the night of May 28, 1914, when she sank off Father Point at the mouth of the Saint Lawrence River, just after midnight on the 29th. This diagram provides a detailed cross-sectional view of the Empress of Ireland's impressive structure. The upper decks are visible, showcasing the grand promenade deck, the spacious saloon, and the elegant first-class dining room.
