The Caterpillar Tractor Company, based in Peoria, Illinois, had been producing tractors for agricultural use since 1904. However, during the war, they shifted their focus to producing tractors for military use. The tractors were modified to meet the specific needs of the military, including the addition of a winch and a towing hook.
