EDITORS COMMENTS
This print transports us back to the enchanting St Petroc Minor Church in Little Petherick, Cornwall, in the year 1968. The view from the south-west of the south aisle reveals a mesmerizing sight that encompasses both history and artistry. The focal point of this image is undoubtedly the beautifully crafted font, pews, rood screen, and vaulted ceiling. Each element exudes an air of grandeur and elegance that perfectly complements the church's Grade I listed status. With origins dating back to the 14th century, this architectural gem has witnessed centuries of worship and spiritual devotion. Throughout its existence, St Petroc Minor Church has undergone significant restoration work by renowned architects. In 1858, William White breathed new life into its structure before Sir Ninian Comper took charge in 1908 for further enhancements. Comper's vision included adding a high altar, reredos (ornamental screen), and rood screen with loft – all meticulously designed to enhance both functionality and aesthetic appeal. Noteworthy contributions were made by talented artisans during these restorations as well. John Parsons of St Teath skillfully carved the intricate details on the rood screen while artists under H. A. Bernard Smith adorned it with their exquisite craftsmanship. Captured through Charles Woolf's lens, this photograph immortalizes a moment frozen in time within this sacred space – a testament to Cornwall's rich ecclesiastical heritage.
