EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the iconic LNER poster from 1932, featuring "The Humber" by renowned artist Frank Mason. Known for his expertise in marine and coastal subjects, Mason's artistic talent shines through in this stunning artwork. "The Humber" transports us to a picturesque scene where the mighty river meets the vast sea. The composition is filled with an array of elements that bring life to this bustling waterway. Freight cargo boats gracefully navigate through the calm waters, their presence hinting at the thriving trade and commerce that once thrived along these shores. Lighthouses stand tall on distant banks, guiding ships safely through treacherous waters and symbolizing hope amidst darkness. Steamships elegantly traverse across the horizon, leaving trails of smoke billowing into the sky as they embark on their journeys. Mason's attention to detail is evident in every brushstroke; he captures not only the physical beauty of this landscape but also its historical significance. His connection to engineering and shipbuilding adds depth to his portrayal of this maritime world. As we gaze upon this remarkable piece of art, we are transported back in time, experiencing a moment frozen forever within its frame. This print serves as a testament to both Mason's artistic brilliance and our enduring fascination with transportation history captured by National Railway Museum's Pictorial Collection.
