When 12 year old Kim Fentiman read about the dockers whip-round to save Prince Philip

When 12 year old Kim Fentiman read about the dockers whip-round to save Prince Philips polo, she thought that something should be done to help the Queen also. She asked her father, 34 year old Sid, licensee of the Hanover Arms, at Peckham, S.E.London if he could organise a charity show for the Queen in which she and her friends would take part. Her father hired a 3-ton lorry decorated it in red-white-and blue bunting, with a pianist playing the grand piano in the back and Kim and friends singing. Seated in the front of the lorry on the right is Kim Fentiman the organiser of the show. November 1969 Z11082

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from November 1969, we are transported back in time to witness the incredible initiative of a young girl named Kim Fentiman. At just twelve years old, Kim stumbled upon an article about dockers raising funds to save Prince Philip's polo and was inspired to extend her help towards Queen Elizabeth as well. Determined to make a difference, she approached her father Sid, who happened to be the licensee of the Hanover Arms in Peckham, S. E. London. With her father's support, Kim organized a charity show for the Queen that would showcase her talents alongside those of her friends. To bring their vision to life, Sid hired a magnificent 3-ton lorry adorned with vibrant red-white-and-blue bunting. The grand piano placed at the back of the truck resonated with beautiful melodies played by a talented pianist while Kim and her friends mesmerized everyone with their angelic voices. This heartwarming image captures young Kim Fentiman seated proudly at the front of the lorry as its organizer and driving force behind this remarkable endeavor. Her determination and compassion shine through as she takes charge in making a positive impact on society during these transformative times in the 1960s. This photograph not only reflects children's innocence but also highlights their ability to inspire change and unite communities for noble causes such as supporting royalty.
