She was the daughter of the dean of Jersey. In 1874 she married Edward Langtry, who died in 1897, and in 1899 she married Hugo de Bathe, who became a baronet in 1907. In 1881 Langtry caused a sensation by being the first society woman to go on the stage, making her first notable appearance at the Haymarket Theatre, London. She also maintained a successful racing stable at Newmarket. One of the most beautiful women of her time, she had many distinguished admirers, including the prince of Wales, subsequently King Edward VII. Date: 13th October 1909

Seven years later, in 1899, she wed Hugo de Bathe, who was later knighted as a baronet in 1907. Langtry made headlines in 1881 by becoming the first society woman to grace the stage, making her debut at the prestigious Haymarket Theatre in London. Her striking beauty and magnetic stage presence earned her a successful acting career. In addition to her theatrical pursuits, Langtry also managed a thriving racing stable at Newmarket.
