Sir Francis Grant (1803-1878): A Visionary Artist and Leader of the Royal Academy This evocative portrait captures the distinguished visage of Sir Francis Grant, a renowned Scottish painter and the esteemed President of the Royal Academy from 1866 until his passing in 1878. Born on March 1, 1803, in Edinburgh, Scotland, Grant's artistic talent was recognized at an early age. He studied under the tutelage of Sir Henry Raeburn before moving to London to further his education at the Royal Academy Schools. Grant's artistic prowess quickly gained recognition, and he became a respected portrait painter, known for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to capture the essence of his subjects.
