EDITORS COMMENTS
This beautiful photograph captures a tender moment between Queen Mary, the consort of King George V of England, and her youngest son, Prince John (later the Duke of York). Taken in the year 1905, when Prince John was just a baby, the image showcases the deep bond between mother and child. Queen Mary, dressed in an elegant gown and pearls, cradles her son in her arms, gazing down at him with a loving expression. The young prince, dressed in a white onesie and wearing a tiny bow, looks up at his mother with a curious and contented expression. Born on June 6, 1867, Mary of Teck, later known as Queen Mary, was the daughter of Francis, Duke of Teck, and Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge. She married the future King George V in 1893 and became the Queen consort of England in 1910 upon her husband's accession to the throne. Queen Mary was known for her grace, style, and dedication to her family and the British people. She was also a prolific writer and patron of the arts. Prince John, the youngest of six children, was born on July 17, 1905, at York Cottage in Sandringham, Norfolk. He was the last child of Queen Mary and King George V. Prince John became the Duke of York in 1920 and later served as the Governor-General of Australia from 1952 to 1959. He died on March 3, 1953, just a few days before his mother's death. This photograph is a poignant reminder of the love and devotion between a mother and her child. It also offers a glimpse into the personal lives of the British royal family during a time of great history and change.
