The mountain, an active stratovolcano, rises proudly from the lush green landscape, its snow-capped peak reaching for the heavens. The settlement, home to the indigenous Maori people, is nestled among the bush-covered rolling hills, with traditional Maori houses and huts scattered throughout. The village of Parihaka, established in the mid-1800s, was a significant center of Maori resistance against European encroachment on their lands.
