Harry MacDonald - Woodcarvers Shop - Woolmer Green
Harry MacDonald at work in his Woodcarvers Shop - Woolmer Green, Knebworth, Hertfordshire. MacDonald (a Yorkshireman) came south and brought this cottage for 1, 000 in 1937. He built his model village over the years & also carved serious subjects. Macdonald died on 23rd April 1971 and the cottage was (very sadly in my opinion) demolished in 1981. Date: circa 1930s

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures Harry MacDonald at work in his woodcarver's shop in Woolmer Green, Knebworth, Hertfordshire, during the 1930s. The Yorkshireman, who moved south in the late 1930s, purchased this quaint cottage for just 1,000 pounds in 1937. Over the ensuing years, MacDonald transformed the property into a unique and unusual model village, showcasing his exceptional woodcarving skills. MacDonald's shop was a testament to his dedication and artistry. In this image, we see him intently focused on his work, surrounded by intricately carved wooden figures and tools. His loyal dog, ever present by his side, seems to share in the artist's passion and creativity. Sadly, MacDonald's life and work were cut short. He passed away on April 23, 1971. Tragically, the cottage that housed his woodcarver's shop was demolished in 1981. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of a talented artisan and his extraordinary creations. MacDonald's woodcarving trade was not just a livelihood, but a labor of love. His serious subjects, as well as his whimsical models, were all brought to life through his skilled hands and artistic vision. This photograph offers a glimpse into the world of a true artist, whose work continues to inspire and delight.
