George Barrington (1755-1804): An Unlikely Journey from Infamous Pickpocket to Respected Official and Prolific Writer This evocative image captures George Barrington, an Irishman born in 1755, in a courtroom setting around the year 1790. At the time, Barrington was known as a notorious pickpocket who had been transported from Ireland to Australia as a punishment for his criminal activities.
