The Italians, who had invaded Ethiopia earlier that year, are seen here preventing the Ethiopians from crossing into Somalia. The image is a poignant reminder of the human cost of the Italian conquest of Ethiopia, which marked the end of the country's independence and the beginning of a 50-year Italian occupation.
