After the day : Suggestions for the re-building of London

If we lost the First World War: Maybe Londons famous buildings and monuments that we know of today would be completely different, German style with the Kaiser and eagles appearing on many of them. Examples are: Tower Bridge called Tower Pridge with beer steins as the tower and bottles as the bascules. Big Ben, Westminster Clock Tower called Pig Ben, Vestminster Clock Tower rebuilt in Teutonic taste, superseded on the cuckoo principle, with the towers as barrels of beers, clock face with a Moustache and sausages and beer steins around it. The nude Achilles as dominant feature of the Wellington Monument in Hyde Park Corner replaced with Kaiser Wilhelm German emperor. Eros statue in Piccadilly Circus renamed Vengeance in Bigadilly Zergue. Date: 1915

EDITORS COMMENTS
Imaginary Rebuilding of London: A Satirical Look at What Could Have Been (1915) This thought-provoking photograph print invites us to ponder the hypothetical aftermath of a World War One loss for Great Britain. In this alternate history, London's iconic structures and monuments bear the distinct mark of German influence, showcasing a redesigned cityscape that is both intriguing and humorous. The Tower Bridge, once known as Tower Bridge, now stands as Tower Pridge. The towers are transformed into beer steins, while the bascules take the shape of bottles. The Big Ben, or Westminster Clock Tower, is now called Pig Ben, with its towers rebuilt in a Teutonic style, complete with barrels for towers and a clock face adorned with a moustache, sausages, and beer steins. The Wellington Monument in Hyde Park Corner, which originally featured the nude Achilles, now boasts a dominant Kaiser Wilhelm German emperor. In Piccadilly Circus, the Eros statue is renamed Vengeance in Bigadilly Zergue. This satirical depiction, created in 1915, offers a glimpse into an alternate reality where the course of history took a different turn. The print serves as a reminder of the power of imagination and the importance of understanding the potential consequences of war.
