Born on January 25, 1842, in London, England, Alcock is considered one of the founding fathers of modern cricket. He is most famously known for establishing the Laws of Cricket in 1893, which standardized the rules of the game and brought consistency to cricket matches played around the world. Alcock's cricketing career began in 1861 when he made his debut for Surrey against Kent. Over the next 15 years, he went on to become a prolific all-rounder, scoring over 10,000 runs and taking more than 1,000 wickets in first-class cricket. In addition to his impressive statistics, Alcock was also a gifted captain, leading Surrey to five County Championship titles between 1882 and 1891.
