EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the stunning Miss Letty Lind, a renowned British actress, singer, dancer, and acrobat. The portrait was created by the talented Aubrey Beardsley in 1895 for "The Yellow Book". Volume V. However, it was withdrawn from publication along with other plates when John Lane, the publisher of the magazine, terminated Beardsley's services as art editor due to the scandal surrounding Oscar Wilde. Letty Lind gained fame for her performance in "An Artists Model" a musical written by Owen Hall. In this illustration intended for "The Yellow Book" she exudes elegance and charm as she stands in full length before an easel. Beardsley's graphic design skills are evident in his intricate attention to detail and use of art nouveau elements. Although this particular piece never made its way into print during its time, it resurfaced years later in "The Best of Beardsley" edited by R. A. Walker in 1948. It serves as a testament to both Letty Lind's talent and Beardsley's artistic prowess. Through this photograph, we catch a glimpse of late 19th-century entertainment culture while also appreciating the beauty and grace of Letty Lind herself. As an icon of her time and an integral part of British literature and theater history, Miss Letty Lind continues to captivate audiences even today through this remarkable portrait captured by Aubrey Beardsley.
