EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a Brahui family in front of their humble hut in Ziarat, Baluchistan, back in 1898. The image showcases the traditional lifestyle of the Brahui people, who were predominantly Sunni Muslims residing in Baluchistan at that time. Known for their nomadic herding practices, the Brahui lived in tents and temporary camps like the one depicted here. The photograph offers a glimpse into the daily lives of this ethnic group as they pose proudly outside their modest dwelling. The children's innocent faces reflect both curiosity and contentment while standing beside their parents. The simplicity of the hut is evident, yet it serves as a symbol of resilience and unity within this close-knit community. Captured by an unknown photographer from the 19th century, this historical print now resides at London's National Army Museum. It is part of an album compiled by C A Milward, belonging to the 1st Battalion Wiltshire Regiment and 3rd Regiment of Sikh Infantry Punjab Frontier Force between 1897-1903.
