EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases "The Cook, after Arcimboldo" an intriguing oil painting on panel from the 17th century. Measuring 58.1x22.2 cm, this artwork is housed in Rosenborg Castle, Copenhagen, Denmark. The painting forms part of the paneling in Christian IV's study and was created between 1617-20. The artist behind this masterpiece remains unknown; however, it is believed to have been influenced by Frants Cleyn and Sren Kior, who returned from Italy in 1617. This particular piece stands out among the other paintings adorning the study as it depicts a unique Arcimboldo-inspired composition that deviates thematically from its surroundings. Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1527-93) served as a significant inspiration for this work's style. The painting features an assortment of kitchen utensils such as knives, saucepans, spoons, bellows, pots, tongs, pans - all arranged meticulously to form a surrealist representation of a cook. With its intricate details and imaginative concept blending culinary implements with artistic expressionism reminiscent of Arcimboldo's iconic works – which often featured human faces composed entirely of fruits or vegetables – this piece captivates viewers with its whimsical charm. Bridgeman Images has beautifully captured this extraordinary artwork through their print reproduction while ensuring that it can be enjoyed by art enthusiasts worldwide without any commercial usage restrictions.
