EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Singapore's iconic Merlion statue through the eyes of a young boy. Standing in awe, he gazes upon a miniature version of this famous tourist attraction, which has become synonymous with the city-state. Originally located at Merlion Park, the statue was relocated to its current site in front of the Fullerton Hotel due to the completion of the Esplanade Bridge. Standing tall at 8.6 meters and weighing an impressive 70 tonnes, it is truly a sight to behold. Designed by Fraser Brunner for the Singapore Tourism Board in 1964, the Merlion served as their logo until 1997 and continues to be their trademark symbol today. Its majestic presence against Marina Bay creates a picturesque backdrop that attracts visitors from all over. In this image captured by Bruce Adams, we witness not only one individual but also eight immature kids surrounding this lone figure. The contrast between their youthful energy and innocence against such an iconic landmark showcases both tradition and modernity coexisting harmoniously in Singapore. As we delve into this fine art photograph, we are reminded of Southeast Asia's rich cultural heritage and how it intertwines with contemporary architecture. This single unitary moment frozen in time encapsulates everything that makes Singaporean culture unique - diversity, innovation, and boundless imagination.
