The International Exhibition: the Outram Shield, exhibited by Messrs. Hunt and Roskell - from a photograph by the London Stereoscopic Company, 1862. Testimonial manufactured by Messrs. Hunt and Roskell, and presented to Sir James Outram, consisting of...a large shield of oxydised silver, iron, and steel, richly damascened in gold....The centre group, which is in high relief and treated somewhat conventionally, represents Sir Henry Havelock, after the relief of Lucknow, restoring to Sir James Outram the command of the British forces...A small circle of steel damascened with gold, which separates this from the low relief, contains eight medallion portraits of Sir James's companions in the Lucknow campaign...The inscription dedicates the shield to Lieutenant-General Sir James Outram..."in token of the affectionate regard of his friends and admirers and brother officers, and in appreciation of his sterling and brilliant qualities which have ever marked his career, and in lasting testimony of his gallantry, self-devotion, and highly chivalrous bearing during the operations attending on and following the relief of Lucknow, 1857."
