EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Benjamin Franklin, a prominent political figure and statesman of the United States during the early 20th century. The artist behind this remarkable portrait is Gordon Ross. Franklin, born in 1706 and passing away in 1790, played a crucial role as a member of the committee that drafted the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Although initially trained as a printer within his family's firm in Boston, Franklin expanded his horizons by pursuing further education in England. He eventually became an esteemed publisher but gained even greater recognition for his contributions to the field of electricity. In fact, he is widely regarded as one of its founding fathers. Franklin's fascination with electricity began around 1747 when he delved into experiments and observations on this subject matter. His groundbreaking work led to various inventions such as lightning conductors and bifocal spectacles. Through this portrait, we are reminded not only of Franklin's significant scientific achievements but also his profound impact on American politics during the country's formative years. This image serves as a testament to his enduring legacy as both an inventor and statesman who helped shape the United States into what it is today.
