This oval print depicts the young and brilliant German writer, Heinrich von Kleist, in the year 1811, when he was just 34 years old. Born on April 18, 1777, in Frankfurt an der Oder, Kleist is considered one of the most influential figures in German literature. Heinrich von Kleist's literary career began in 1801 with the publication of his first play, "Prince Friedrich of Homburg." However, it was his later works, such as "The Broken Jug," "Michael Kohlhaas," and "The Tale of Marquise Luise Miller," that cemented his place in literary history.
