Born on March 28, 1855, in County Tyrone, Ireland, Sclater joined the British Army in 1873 and rose through the ranks to become a respected and accomplished military commander. He served with distinction in various theaters of the war, including France, Mesopotamia, and Palestine. In 1916, he was appointed to command the 3rd Division, which played a crucial role in the Battle of the Somme.
