Nottingham Forest is an English professional football club based in Nottingham, England. The club was founded in 1865 and currently competes in the Championship, the second tier of English football. Nottingham Forest is one of the most successful clubs in English football history, having won two European Cups, four League Championships and two FA Cups. A long and proud history that dates back to 1865 when it was founded as a cricket club by William Clarke. In 1868, the club changed its name to Nottingham Forest Football Club and began playing association football instead of cricket. The team soon became one of the most successful teams in England during this period, winning their first FA Cup title in 1898 and their first League Championship title just three years later. In 1959-60 season under manager Billy Walker's guidance they achieved promotion from Division Two to Division One for the first time since 1949-50 season with a record points total for that division at that time (77 points). This success continued into the 1970s when Brian Clough took over as manager; he led them to two consecutive European Cup titles between 1979 and 1980 – making them only the second British team ever to win Europe’s premier competition – as well as four League Championships between 1978-79 and 1982-83 seasons. The 1990s saw a decline for Nottingham Forest with relegation from Division One occurring twice during this decade; however they have since bounced back with promotion from League One (third tier) being achieved twice since 2004–05 season including last year’s campaign which saw them finish runners up behind Sheffield United who were promoted automatically due to their superior goal difference over third placed Fleetwood Town on final day drama. Today it can still competing at a high level despite not yet achieving promotion back into Premier League; they are currently managed by former player Chris Hughton who has been at helm since 2019–20 season after previous managers Martin O’Neill & Sabri Lamouchi both failed to lead them out of Championship despite getting close on several occasions. With Hughton now at helm there is hope that he can finally bring success back to City Ground once again.
