Alan John Ainsworth was a British mathematician and physicist who made significant contributions to the fields of mathematics, physics, and engineering. He is best known for his work on the theory of elasticity and his development of the Ainsworth equation. He also worked on problems related to wave propagation in solids, plasticity theory, and nonlinear mechanics.
