Framed Print of Peninsular War

Peninsular War (1808-1814). Catalonia. Battle of Mollet (21 January 1810). The French garrison of Barcelona, headed by General Duhesme, was surrounded by territory controlled by Spanish guerrillas. For this reason he frequently organized columns of soldiers in search of supplies. Marshal Pierre Augereau sent from Hostalrich a convoy with supplies escorted by nine thousand soldiers. Duhesme, in turn, left to meet it with two thousand men to gather in Granollers. The Marquis of Campoverde (Luis Gonzalez-Torres de Navarra y Castro) left Tarrasa and intercepted the vanguard of Duhesme's column in Santa Perpetua, annihilating it completely. Then he marched towards Mollet where he fought against the rest, achieving their surrender. The French surprised by Jose Manso (1785-1863), military officer leading a group of Migueletes, in Mollet and Santa Perpetua. Chromolithography. El Grito de Independencia (The scream for independence), by Carlos Mendoza. Published in Barcelona, 1890. Universal Images Group (UIG) manages distribution for many leading specialist agencies worldwide.
