The Wharncliffe Viaduct, Hanwell, Middlesex, 1838. This viaduct of eight elliptical arches, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859), carries the Great Western Railway between two embankments at Hanwell, some 8 miles from central London.
