Wrecked on the south coast. Rocket shot from cliff top to crew of fishing boat

Wrecked on the south coast.
Rocket shot from cliff top to crew of fishing boat on rocks near Newhaven.
The Eastbourne fishing boat Friscary, owned by Mr Frank French of Eastbourne, went ashore on the rocks near Peacehaven, on the south coast of England, not far from Newhaven. In response to signals of distress the Newhaven lifeboat went out and failed to find the vessel in the dense fog. After two hours the fog lifted and rocket apparatus was mounted on the cliff and a line was shot aboard. The vessel was badly holed and it is believed to be impossible to salvage her.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a dramatic moment on the south coast of England in 1933. The image showcases the wreckage of the Eastbourne fishing boat Friscary, owned by Mr Frank French, as it lies stranded on rocks near Peacehaven, not far from Newhaven. The vessel's desperate crew can be seen alongside their wrecked boat, highlighting the perilous situation they faced. In response to distress signals from the crew, the Newhaven lifeboat was dispatched into dense fog but failed to locate the stricken vessel. However, after two hours, as if answering their prayers, the fog lifted and rocket apparatus was swiftly mounted on a cliff top. With precision aim and nerves of steel, a line was shot aboard the damaged boat. Unfortunately, despite this valiant effort to rescue her, it became apparent that salvaging Friscary would be impossible due to severe damage sustained during her ordeal. This poignant photograph freezes time at this critical juncture between hope and despair for both Mr Frank French - standing resolute beside his ship - and Mr F Parker - third mate of Friscary. As we gaze upon this monochrome snapshot from history's archives courtesy of TopFoto. co. uk. , we are reminded of Europe's turbulent interwar period when tales like these were all too common. It serves as a testament to human resilience in times of adversity while also honoring those who risked everything for others' safety at sea.
