London man gives £1600 organ to Cambridgeshire church. Owing to the generosity of a London man

London man gives £ 1600 organ to Cambridgeshire church.
Owing to the generosity of a London man, Doddington (Cambridgeshire) parish church will soon celebrate its 1000th birthday with a new organ.
The church, which has a directors roll going back to 1282, was once the richest in the country, but it has grown so poor that though a new organ was badly needed no one could raise the money.
Now, in response to an appeal of the Rector, the Rev Richard Ridge, the church has been given an organ by Mr F. C. Nunn, a 78-year-old Dulwich bachelor.
The organ, three manual instrument, is 49 years old, but is in perfect condition. It is said to be worth £ 1600.
The only problem now facing 65-year-old Mr Ridge is the raising of £ 200 for transporting and assembling the organ at Doddington.
Photo shows, the Rev Richard Ridge, (left), Rector of Doddington church, and Mr Reeves, the builder of the organ, testing the pipes at the organ building works in Camberwell, London.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this historic photo print, we witness a heartwarming act of generosity that will forever be remembered in the annals of Doddington parish church's history. A London man, Mr F. C. Nunn, has bestowed upon the Cambridgeshire church an invaluable gift - a magnificent organ worth £1600. Doddington church, with its rich heritage dating back to 1282, was once renowned as one of the wealthiest churches in the country. However, over time it fell on hard times and became too impoverished to afford a new organ despite its dire need for one. Enter Mr Nunn, a 78-year-old bachelor from Dulwich who responded wholeheartedly to an appeal made by Reverend Richard Ridge. With his selfless act of kindness, he has ensured that Doddington church can celebrate its upcoming millennium with resounding melodies filling its sacred walls. The three-manual instrument is not only a testament to craftsmanship but also stands as a symbol of hope and unity within the community. Reverend Ridge now faces the task of raising £200 for transporting and assembling this precious gift at Doddington. Captured in this photograph are Reverend Richard Ridge and Mr Reeves, diligently testing the pipes at Camberwell's organ building works in London. Their dedication showcases their commitment to preserving tradition while embracing progress. This extraordinary moment serves as a reminder that even during challenging times when resources seem scarce, acts of benevolence can restore faith and breathe new life into cherished institutions like Doddington parish church.
