Framed Prints From STEAM Museum

Framed Print of Air raid shelter at West Ealing Goods Yard, 1940

A rather intriguing photo here of West Ealing Goods Yard, taken in 1940. The strange molehill shaped mounds dotted along the track are air raid shelters and could be accessed quickly by the goods staff should an attack be imminent. The pipes sticking from the top of the shelters were probably used for ventilation purposes or as chimneys for stoves and heaters. STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway.
