Framed Print of Young Charles Dickens, English Author

A young Dickens by George Cruikshank. Their signatures appear at the bottom. Charles John Huffam Dickens (February 7, 1812 - June 9, 1870) was an English author, social critic and the greatest novelist of the Victorian period. He was the literary colossus of his age and his works enjoyed unprecedented fame. His 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol, is one of the most influential works ever written, and remains popular and continues to inspire adaptations in every artistic genre. His novels, most published in monthly or weekly installments, pioneered the serial publication of narrative fiction. This format allowed Dickens to evaluate his audience's reaction, and he often modified his plot and character development based on such feedback. © New York Public Library / Science Source
