Framed Print of Glass Squid

Glass Squid (Galiteuthis phyllura). Glass Squid have mostly clear body tissue for all or part of their lives. A Russian trawler brought a specimen of this squid aboard that measured near 12 feet in length. Photophores exist near the margin of the squid's eye. This species inhabits northern Pacific temperate waters. This specimen was trawled from 1000 feet depth off of Monterey, California, in November 2007. It measured roughly 3 inches minus the length of the tentacles. © Dante Fenolio / Science Source
