Framed Print of Robert Boyle's air pumps

Robert Boyle's (1627-1692) air pumps, improvements upon Otto von Guericke's air pumps. In the year 1659, working in partnership with Robert Hooke, Boyle produced an improved type of air pump. Boyle was a chemist and physicist; he studied crystallography, experimented with colors, came near to the discovery of oxygen and wrote about the advancement of spiritual greatness through Christianity. © New York Public Library / Science Source
