Dragonfish are among the most fierce of the deep sea dwellers in appearance. This species, Leptostomias bermudensis, has a lure, a luminous organ attached to the end of a rod like barbel, which is attached to the lower jaw. In theory, the dragonfish wiggles the glowing lure to attract prey. Anything of appropriate size that comes within striking distance is dinner. The barbell in this species is nearly as long as the body of the fish.
