The catfishes of the genus Cetopsis live in waterways of South America and can be found to considerable depth. Some species are infamous for their habits of entering the bodies of larger fishes that have been caught on hook and line. Once inside, they feed on the innards. This is Cetopsis coecutiens which can be found in large schools down to considerable depths. The species is common in the Amazon drainage system as well as other large rivers in South America, including the Orinoco and Tocantins Rivers.
