This De Havilland D.H.84 G-ACCV Seafarer flown by Mr Jim Mollison and his wife Amy Mollison (formerly Amy Johnson), pictured in flight over Mine Head Lighthouse off the coast of Waterford, Southern Ireland en route for the USA.
The plane was specially equipped with cabin fuel tanks and strengthened undercarriage for an attempt on the worlds long distance record by the husband and wife aviators.
They took off from Pendine Sands in South Wales on 22nd July 1933, heading out over the Atlantic en route for New York. After a flight of 39 hours they arrived over Bridgeport, Connecticut, but owing to fatigue and darkness they landed downwind turning the aircraft over; they escaped with only minor injuries.
