Testing the keenness... Every day at the factory of the Wilkinson Sword Company

Testing the keenness.......
Every day at the factory of the Wilkinson Sword Company in Cramlington, outside Newcastle, 270 men who make the razor blades shave on duty as part of the production.
From the many used blades a number are taken for examination in the laboratory.
This is not all. A study is made when someone complains about a poor shave. Here the physiological background is studied. Sometimes the man is not feeling well, other times he might have been having a few late nights, or even a row with his wife. All these things add up to skin condition and whether they get a good shave or not. Our Picture Shows: Nearest the camera George Moffatt, next Robert Martin, Gordon Watson and Frank McAlroy. 6th March 1967

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this print from 1967, we are transported to the bustling factory of the Wilkinson Sword Company in Cramlington, just outside Newcastle. Here, a team of 270 dedicated men work tirelessly to craft razor blades that promise an impeccable shave. As part of their daily routine, these skilled craftsmen take shaving on duty to a whole new level. Each man shaves with the very product they meticulously produce, ensuring its keenness and quality firsthand. But their commitment doesn't end there. A select number of used blades are carefully collected for examination in the laboratory. This meticulous process allows for continuous improvement and guarantees customer satisfaction. However, it is not solely about blade sharpness at Wilkinson Sword; they understand that achieving a perfect shave goes beyond technicalities. When someone complains about a subpar experience, an in-depth study takes place examining various factors such as skin condition and personal well-being. Late nights or domestic disputes can unexpectedly impact one's grooming routine! The photograph captures four proud employees - George Moffatt, Robert Martin, Gordon Watson, and Frank McAlroy - who exemplify dedication and expertise within this male-dominated industry. This nostalgic image serves as a reminder of Wilkinson Sword's unwavering commitment to producing top-notch razors while considering every aspect that contributes to an exceptional shaving experience.
