Sunday school children and their circus theme joined carnival time in Holmfirth as churches in the parish combined to provide a procession of floats. Brightly decked floats from church groups at Holy Trinity Church, Holmfirth, St Andrews Church, Thongsbridge and Choppards church, paraded from Thongsbridge to the centre of the township, lead by Paddock Youth Band. In Holmfirth there were stalls selling sweets, cakes, books along with sideshows, games and a wheel of fortune and prize draw. Winners of a children art competition were presented with their prizes. The annual carnival was held to raise money for general maintenance at the churches. 1st June 1985
