Former Goon Sir Harry Secombe flew into Newcastle and almost won himself a surprise magnum of champagne. The netertainer narrowlly missed being the 10, 000th passenger to fly the Gatwick to Newcastle route on Dan-Airs new British Aerospce 146 airliner. However he did not miss out on the presentation ceremony when the plane landed in the North East. Sir Harry was to spend the day recording a television programme in Durham Cathedra and was asked to present the bubbly and two Dan Air return tickets to Mr Alan Chisholm. Mr Chisholm, who was born in Jarrow but lived in Sussex, worked for RT James and Partners, who had offices in Clavering Place, Newcastle and the South-East..
