Framed Print of About 70 employees of the Auto Machinery Company, Aldermmor Lane, Coventry

About 70 employees of the Auto Machinery Company, Aldermmor Lane, Coventry, lined up yesterday to be shot at with anew jet-spray gun loaded with influenza vaccine. In 10 minutes they had all been inoculated by the new method with Influvac, a vaccine which it is hoped, will reduce the incidence of influenza by 65%. A mobile anti-flu team has been visiting many firms in the Midlands, and the new jet-spray method has been devised to deal with large numbers in the shortest possible time. The vaccine is sprayed through the skin at high speed and dispenses with the use of a hyperdermic syringe. Well over 300 men and women per hour can be vaccinated in that way, which is an important consideration in industry so keeping interference with production to a minimum. Influenza robs industry of 20 million days in absenteeism each year and the vaccine gives protection for 8 months.Anti-flu jabs, Coventry.
