Known as "The Kid," "The Splendid Splinter," "Teddy," "Thumper," and "The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived," Williams' baseball career spanned from 1939 to 1960, primarily with the Boston Red Sox. Born on August 30, 1918, in San Diego, California, Williams' baseball prowess was evident from an early age. He began his professional baseball career with the minor league Class D San Diego Padres in 1936 and was soon called up to the major leagues with the Boston Red Sox in 1939. Over the next 11 seasons, Williams established himself as one of the greatest hitters in baseball history, with a career batting average of .344 and 521 home runs. In 1941, Williams led the American League in batting average, runs batted in, and slugging percentage, earning him the American League Most Valuable Player Award. He was a 19-time All-Star, a two-time American League MVP, and a two-time World Series champion. After retiring as a player, Williams managed the Boston Red Sox from 1961 to 1964 and the Washington Senators from 1969 to 1972. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966.
