Born in 1743, Henry Belasyse was the eldest son of the First Earl of Fauconberg and Lady Mary Brudenell. He entered the military at a young age and rose through the ranks, serving in the Seven Years' War and the American Revolution. In 1762, he was appointed Governor of Jamaica, a position he held for three years. The Countess, whose identity remains unknown, is depicted in a elegant and fashionable dress, adorned with intricate lace and a feathered headdress. Her gentle expression and demure pose contrast sharply with her husband's bold and commanding presence. The portrait, which dates from the late 18th century, offers a glimpse into the opulence and grandeur of the time.
