This poignant photograph captures Prince Christian Victor of Schleswig-Holstein, eldest son of Princess Helena, the third daughter of Queen Victoria, in his military uniform as an officer during his service in the Boer War in 1900. Born on July 25, 1867, Christian was a beloved member of the British royal family, known for his distinctive moustache and strong resemblance to his grandmother, Queen Victoria. Tragically, Christian's time in the Boer War was cut short when he contracted malaria and passed away on February 2, 1901, at the age of 33. His death deeply affected the royal family and the British public, who mourned the loss of this young and promising prince.
