Niccolo Forteguerri: A Prominent Figure in 18th Century Italian Church and Literature This evocative portrait captures the distinguished countenance of Niccolo Forteguerri (1674-1735), an Italian churchman, bishop, and prolific writer. Forteguerri was born in Florence, Tuscany, and was ordained a priest in 1700. He quickly rose through the ranks of the Catholic Church, becoming a bishop in 1712. However, Forteguerri's true passion lay in literature, and he dedicated much of his time to writing. Forteguerri's literary output was vast and varied, encompassing theological treatises, biographies, and historical works.
